Our Classes

The Dance Studio Philosophy

At The Dance Studio we love to celebrate the arts through dance, song, and performance. Here your children and teens can join us to build a collection of valuable skills that may carry over to influence many facets of life. We invite you and your children to grow with us and to benefit from the multifaceted rewards that continued education and practice in the performance arts can provide.

We offer a wide range of classes for all ages. Ballet and tap classes are great ways for Adults to keep fit – body and mind.

We encourage you to celebrate with us a love of the arts in its many forms..

Our Classes
Ages 2-5
We offer classes for children as young as 2 years. In our “Mommy & Me” class children learn to dance side-by-side with a parent/guardian. Dance, song and story are used in this gently structured class to introduce your little one to the arts.  Children ages 3-5 may progress on to “Beginner Ballet” where these little ones learn invaluable social skills, a sense of discipline, and how to control their bodies in motion, and/or “Ballet/Tap” where ballet basics are taught along with introductory tap steps and dance routines
Ballet
Our Ballet program is under the direction of Mrs. Andrea Stafford and is guided by the standards set forth by the Cecchetti Council of America. By ages 5 (by invitation) or 6 children will begin Ballet Level 1 classes.  All ballet dancers will begin to study Primary I syllabus, followed by Primary II and III. Once these levels are completed the dancer will move into classical ballet training. When studying the Cecchetti syllabus, a minimum of 3 ballet classes per week are recommended in order for the dancer to become a candidate for exams. Ballet is the bases of all forms of dance. It can encourage life long physical activity, coordination, balance, confidence, and excellent posture and body awareness in your children and teens.
Tap
Tap
Little ones love to make noise and they can have fun doing so while learning the fundamentals of rhythm and musicality in our energetic tap classes.  Tap is an invigorating form of dance in which dancers create rhythmic patterns and beats with their feet.  It is great cardiovascular exercise and enjoyable at all ages.   Our instructors have taught in music theatre programs at both the University of Windsor and St Clair College and have performed and competed all over North America. Young dancers can step into their tap shoes and start to learn about tap in Ballet/Tap (ages 3-5). From here, students will move on to a full tap class for ages 4-7....and on from there. We also offer Beginner tap classes for Adults.
Broadway Jazz
Jazz dance has always been developed and performed with the popular music of the day. It originated along side the invent of jazz music. Broadway Jazz is all about using dance to tell the story of the music.  Following in the footsteps of great Broadway choreographers, such as Micheal Bennett, Bob Fosse,  and Jerome Robbins, our instructors will teach dancers to go beyond the steps and students will learn to bring strength, personality, pop, and pizazz to their performance!
Acro Jazz
“Acro”  is dance style that combines classical dance technique with precise acrobatic elements.   It is defined by an athletic character and unique choreography and is popular in amateur competition, professional dance theatre, and productions like Cirque de Soleil.  Our Acro/Jazz classes aim to teach students to become capable in both dance and acrobatic skills. Students will build their capacities for physical strength, endurance, and flexibility.  All students will be encourage to demonstrate excellent body awareness and posture as well as learn how to move their bodies safely.  Children will start in Acro/Jazz classes ages 4-7.
